**CLOSED** Cow Patties Cloth Review & Giveaway

I am so happy to be partnering yet again with Megs of Cow Patties Cloth to review a really fantastic WAHM-made product for you all. You may remember Megs from her biography writeup during our huge Facebook February gala. Megs and her partner, Bonnie, are WAHMs passionate about making quality (and cute!) diapers that everyone can afford. What started out as a simple sewing project for her own children progressed into a beautiful, budding business that has gained a cult following online. Megs regularly keeps a few favorites stocked but is also always kept busy with custom orders for her loyal followers. She creates covers, wipes, AI2s, and--of course--her "Famous Pocket Fitteds", which I was ever so lucky to be able to review this time around.

The Cow Patties Cloth Famous Pocket Fitted (FPF) diaper is comprised of a few real quality layers of breathable materials. The outer is a supersoft minky fabric (available in a variety of cute prints!). The inner lining is comprised of 2 layers of soft bamboo fleece with a pocket space underneath for the multi-layered bamboo fleece insert. The insert I was sent was unlike any other insert I've ever received before. It is actually a very long band of bamboo fabric (think of the look of a tensor bandage, and it is a little like that) that can then be folded in half about three times or more to form a thick, absorbant pad of about 10-12 layers of bamboo fleece to stuff into the pocket. This diaper has been designed with night-time use in mind, and although there is no PUL or real "waterproof" layer in it, the bamboo pad is so super-absorbant that most babies (unless they are extremely heavy wetters) can sleep comfortably through the night in this fitted diaper, coverless for optimal breathability.

I'll be honest--I was a little terrified at the prospects of putting Baby Aurelia down for the night in a coverless diaper. I'd never tried it before, and she is a long nighttime sleeper, often going 11-12 solid hours without a change. I even emailed Megs the day before I attempted it in case I had misunderstood the lofty claims of this diaper. She assured me that the majority of babies will do alright in it and that only the heavy wetters may have trouble. So, with my fingers crossed, I laid Baby A down that night in this coverless diaper, folding an extra receiving blanket under her little tush in case leaks happened.

I woke up the next morning and literally ran into the nursery to check on the diaper that had been on her for the past 12 or so hours. I picked her up. There were no puddles, no wet jammies, no cold and fussy baby. I removed the sleepers and found that the diaper, though slightly damp, was by no means leaking or saturated, and that the uber-thick bamboo pad inserted into the pocket had indeed been enough to absorb, absorb, and absorb some more, all throughout the night. I was super impressed, to say the least. I was also so relieved that baby's bum had got a bit more air circulation all night and didn't have the usual redness or small bumps that I sometimes find after a long stay in a PUL diaper. I am dazzled at the ingenuity of this uniquely designed diaper, and am even more impressed that it came from a WAHM. It's awesome what skill is out there within our WAHM community!!

Other than its obvious triumphs with absorbancy, there are other things I like about this diaper. It is a one-size diaper, adjustable with a variety of snaps at the waist as well as through the rise. I love how snugly the rise snaps hold--with my brand name diapers, the rise snaps always pucker and gap (and sometimes come undone altogether), but I found that the Cow Patties Cloth rise snaps snugged the fabric up so tightly to give a really cute look:

I obviously also love that this diaper is super soft and is made of more natural than synthetic materials with the bamboo lining and insert.  It makes all the prep washing (3-5 good washes) worth it! ;) The diaper is a bit bulky, but I chalk all that up to part of its absorbancy capabilities, so I can deal with that (especially because I plan to keep using it as a night diaper, and you don't need to wear snug jeans or pants overtop at night anyways!).
