Facebook February Feature #3

Meet Diana, owner of Sweet Sparrow Design

Though Sweet Sparrow Design was not formally started as a shop until 2010, it began in the mind of Diana, its owner, long before that. Having enjoyed sewing her entire life, Diana seriously began thinking about the idea of sewing cloth diapers when her grandchildren were in their diapering years. When compared to disposable diapers, the softness and comfort of cloth was extremely apparent. Having cloth diapered her own three daughters years before, it was only natural that she encourage the girls to pursue a similar path with their own children. The environmental and healthful aspects to cloth diapering were also a huge incentive for her and her family to pursue modern cloth diapering even further.  And so, with a little sewing know-how and a lot of love for cloth diapering, Sweet Sparrow Design was born.

Sweet Sparrow Design is still, for the most part, a one-woman business. Diana conceptualizes and sews all her own designs, making each piece one of a kind. Her quaint online shop features cloth wipes, wet bags, baby legwarmers, and--of course--cloth diapers. Being in the sewing room and constructing items that are good for babies and for the earth are still Diana's main passion. However, as she continues to grow this young business, she is setting her goals on focusing more on developing excellent customer service and a personal connection with each one of her clients. Although she gets some help from her daughter with the online promotion aspect of the business, she hopes to continue to grow her skills and horizons in the online business world. Additionally, she sees 2011 as a year to expand not only online, but also into the field of local business within her community.

As busy as she is kept with the business, Diana is also busy continuing to work outside the home as well, as her husband also does. Together, they live with their 2 dogs, 4 cats, 11 chickens, and 4 fish on a pleasant little acreage in the central Canadian countryside. In her free time, Diana loves spending time with her family (her three married daughters and their families), pets, and garden. She also enjoys photography as well as cruising around with her husband in their vintage car. In the short-term future, Diana dreams of Sweet Sparrow Design's continued success so that she can quit her day job and focus on working from home and spending more time with her three grandchildren, who are growing up far too quickly for her liking.

This is feature number 3 of 8 for our Facebook February promotion. Read all the features this month and then join us for a Facebook party on Monday, February 28th at 8:00 PM CST, where Diana and Sweet Sparrow Design will be giving away a FREE set of 10 super soft cotton flannel wipes to one lucky winner!

Wow, she's a one woman powerhouse, with a business, a "day job", and a home to run. It's interesting that her grandchildren were the catalyst for her business. I guess we really never know where inspiration is going to come from.
